Overweight Permits

The Pipestone County Board of Commissioners have adopted the following policy;

OVERWEIGHT PERMITS DURING NON-SPRING ROAD POSTINGS

No overweight axles or axle groups on bituminous/concrete highways. (Overweight of gross may be permitted). Applicant pays for restoration on the gravel roadways if damaged.

No overweight loads crossing any bridge or culvert unless a registered engineer verifies the structure will not be damaged. The applicant pays for the engineering study.

OVERWEIGHT PERMITS DURING SPRING ROAD POSTINGS

No overweight axles or axle groups on blacktop/concrete highways. (Overweight of gross may be permitted). Applicant must follow the procedure below for gravel roadways.

No overweight loads crossing any bridge or culvert unless a registered engineer verifies the structure will not be damaged. The applicant pays for the engineering study.

Overweight loads may be permitted on County gravel roads under the following conditions:
- County Highway staff must be present and observe the actual move.
- The applicant must pay for staff time for such observation.
- The applicant must also pay for any damage/restoration of the roadway. The estimated damage/restoration cost is at the sole discretion of the engineer. Such damages/restoration cost may occur months after the move has taken place. It is understood that the damage may not be readily recognized immediately after the movement of the load and said damage may occur days or weeks after the move after additional traffic has driven the roadway(s).
- The applicant must give Pipestone County a 24-hour notice of the actual time of the move in order to coordinate personnel to observe.
- The applicant must have a copy of this document during the move and must receive a signature of the observer at the time of the move to become a valid permit.
- All other conditions and restriction under the normal overweight permit process will still apply.
- The applicant must sign below recognizing the conditions and requirements and said signature indicating that they do hereby agree to the terms of this agreement.
